Mt. Pleasant soccer sweeps Chiefs
Both Mt. Pleasant soccer teams remain undefeated after taking on Keokuk on Thursday.
The boys’ team hosted the Chiefs and won the match 6-0; the girls’ team traveled to Keokuk for a 3-1 win.
Bo Vitale had the first goal for the Panthers just five minutes into the boys’ match on as assist from Zoom Gwamna. Other goals in the first half came from Yiannis Steryiannis and from Derek Holtkamp, who was assisted by Brach Prough.
The Panthers led 3-0 at halftime.
Vitale had two more goals in the second half for a hat trick, assisted on one by Steryiannis.
Steryiannis then had the final goal of the match, assisted by Vitale.
Alderson had four saves in goal; Keokuk only managed five shots on the night, and four were on goal.
Mt. Pleasant is now 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Southeast Conference.
The girls’ team was led by Holly Long, who had a hat trick of her own — she scored all three goals in the second half with assists from Allie Liechty, Sarah VanDorin and Linzie Hood.
Keokuk rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 77th minute, the first goal that an opponent has been able to get by Panther keeper Lauren Hillman this season.
Hillman recorded 11 saves on the night.
The Panthers are now 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the SEC. They will play Tuesday in West Point against Holy Trinity.
The boys’ team plays at Ft. Madison on Monday.
