Mt. Pleasant tennis teams defeated
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ tennis team was dealt its first loss of the season on Monday when it played Notre Dame/West Burlington. The Panthers fell, 6-3, and are now 3-1 on the season.
The boys’ tennis team hosted Ft. Madison at East Lake Park, and they fell to their Southeast Conference opponents, also by a score of 6-3.
In the girls’ meet, wins for the Panthers came from No. 2 singles player Shelby Barton, who came up with an 8-5 victory.
Emily Hatfield also got a singles win, 9-7. Both Barton and Hatfield are 3-1 on the season, as are Becca Lehman and Tasha Glover, who suffered their first singles losses on Monday.
The Panthers’ final win on the day came from the doubles team of Lorynn Whaley and Raeanna Crile, who defeated their Notre Dame/West Burlington opponents by a score of 8-4.
In the boys’ meet, the Panthers got wins from their top two singles players, Chase Higginbotham (6-1, 6-0) and Zach Schmitz (6-0, 6-2), but Ft. Madison came out on top of the other singles matches, winning all four handily.
Higginbotham and Schmitz paired up for a doubles win later in the day (7-5, 6-1), but the other two doubles matches went to the Bloodhounds.
The Panther boys will get a rematch against the Bloodhounds on Friday, when they travel to play in Ft. Madison at 4:30 p.m.; but first, they go to Burlington to play Notre Dame on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Next up for the girls is a home meet against Ft. Madison on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
