Mt. Pleasant volleyball continues conference streak
FT. MADISON — Mt. Pleasant volleyball is still undefeated in the Southeast Conference after a four-set win over Ft. Madison on Tuesday.
The Panthers dropped their first set against the Bloodhounds, 25-17, but won the next three straight: 25-11, 26-24 and 25-19.
“We were down 24-20 in the third before reeling off six straight points on the serve of Taryne Shull, who had five aces on the night,” Coach Jeff Schulz said.
The Panthers had 10 aces on the night; Lydia Smith served three and Hannah Becker added two.
Becker was a perfect 19-for-19 serving and Loving was 18-for-19. Smith went 17-for-18 and Brianne Potts was a perfect 12-for-12.
Shull went 13-for-15. She also finished with seven kills and five blocks.
Kelsi Phipps was the team’s kill leader with 11, followed by Brianne Holtkamp and Smith with nine each.
Phipps also had five blocks, and Shayleigh Smith had four.
Loving led the team with 30 assists and Becker contributed 13.
Dig leaders were Potts with 22, Holtkamp with 17, Abigail Feldman with 12 and Lydia Smith with 11.
The JV and freshman teams also defeated Ft. Madison on Tuesday.
The JV team won by scores of 25-23 and 25-19 to up its record to 3-1 on the season.
Elle Schleisman had a team-high four kills against the Bloodhounds, while Brooke Vanderham, Bailee Garmoe, Jade Kennedy, Asiah Zaragoza and Hattie Liechty had two kills each.
Evie Kunch had seven assists and Jena Stukerjurgen added five.
Stukerjurgen was also a perfect 8-for-8 serving with an ace; Liechty went 13-for-15 serving with four aces.
Liechty also led the team with 11 digs. Vanderham added six and Garmoe had four digs.
In the freshman match, Mt. Pleasant won in three sets — the Panthers lost the first game, 25-13, but came back with wins in games two and three: 25-17 and 15-13.
They are also 3-1 on the season.
Sarah Moffett led the team with five kills and Abbie Liechty contributed four.
Kirsten Smith had five digs and Genna Cristoforo added four.
Ryen Chrissinger had two ace serves.
Next up for Mt. Pleasant is a freshman/JV/varsity tripleheader at Ottumwa on Thursday, starting at 6 p.m.
