New dentist returns to Mt. Pleasant to begin career
There is a new dentist in town.
Dr. Karla L. Maher, D.D.S, is joining Mt. Pleasant Dental Associates this month to provide comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages.
Maher is a native of Mt. Pleasant, graduating from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 2006, Simpson College in 2009 and the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2013. She is the daughter of Candace Gill of Mt Pleasant and Patrick Wood of Clarence.
“We are excited to bring another hometown person back to Mt. Pleasant to start her business,” said Dr. Jeffrey E. Sitar, owner of Mt. Pleasant Dental Associates.
Maher and her husband, Josh, grew up in Mt. Pleasant and are active members of the community. They are members of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club and Mt. Pleasant’s young professionals’ group, AMP.
While in the University of Iowa Dental program, she participated in many volunteer opportunities, including a mission trip to Jamaica where she provided cleanings, fillings and extractions to the under-served population.
Maher is a member of American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Iowa Dental Association and American Association of Women in Dentistry.
Mt. Pleasant Dental Associates was opened by Dr. Richard Sankey in 1972. Dr. Sitar joined Dr. Sankey in 1995 and took over the practice five years later after Dr. Sankey retired.
