New London divides pair of games
NEW LONDON — New London’s boys’ baseball team split a pair of games Friday night, besting Moravia, 8-6, and falling to Pekin of Packwood, 16-5.
Quincy Porter banged a pair of doubles and Jayden Flowers added another two-bagger to lead the Tigers’ offense against Moravia.
Hunter Moeller led the 12-hit attack with three singles. Cameron Watson and Justin Henecke joined Porter with two hits. Other hitters with singles were Devon Smyth and Reno Chiri.
Mitch Boles was the starting and winning pitcher for New London, giving up just three hits in 4.3 scoreless innings. Moeller and Henecke also saw action on the mound for the winners.
In the Pekin game, New London saw the winners score in every inning but the sixth. Pekin jumped to a 14-3 lead after four innings and cruised from there.
New London did manage nine hits in the game. Moeller and Smyth each had a pair of safeties with the latter smacking a double. Porter also had a double while Flowers, Henecke, Blake Nehring and Tyler Severson contributed singles.
With the Friday night action, the Tigers took an 8-9 season slate into games this week.
