New London earns No. 3 seed in tourney
The New London volleyball team has been picked as the No. 3 seed for the 20-team Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament, which starts on Thursday.
The Tigers will play in Pool 3, which will be at Wapello*, against No. 6 Highland, No. 11 Wapello, No. 14 Columbus and No. 19 Lone Tree.
Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO will also be playing in the tournament; the Wolves are No. 5 and the Warriors got the No. 16 seed.
W-MU will play in Pool 4 against No. 4 IMS, No. 12 Cardinal, No. 13 Van Buren and No. 20 Louisa-Muscatine. The matches will be played at Cardinal in Eldon.
WACO falls into Pool 1, and will play at Maharishi in Fairfield. The Warriors will take on No. 1 Holy Trinity, No. 8 West Burlington, No. 9 Pekin and No. 17 Maharishi.
Pool 2 consists of No. 2 Mediapolis, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 10 Central Lee, No. 15 Danville and No. 18 Harmony.
First round matches begin at 5 p.m. at the host schools.
The top two teams from pool play advance to the championship quarterfinals, which will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Southeastern Community College in Burlington.
The winner from Pool 1 will play the runner up from Pool 2, and the same goes for Pools 3 and 4.
Third- and fourth-place teams from pool play will compete in a consolation bracket; their matches begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at SCC.
