New London girls falter against Hawks

Jan 16, 2013

DONNELLSON — The New London girls posted a 19-point second quarter, but Central Lee managed to top them with 21 points in the same quarter on its way to a 66-38 Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division win over the Tigers on Tuesday night.

New London (4-10 overall, 3-8 SEISC South) just couldn’t get ahead of the Hawks, who had taken a 13-7 lead after the first eight minutes of the game.

After their scoring burst just before halftime, the Tigers slowed down in the second half, posting only seven points in the third quarter and five in the last eight minutes.

Addie Lounsbury led the Tigers with 12 points in the game; Victoria Noel and Sami Koontz scored eight points each. As a team, the Tigers shot 31 percent on the night.

Morgan Christner and Kenadi Schulte each grabbed six rebounds.

Noel dished three assists and had three steals; Christner put up the team’s only block.

Next up for the Tigers is a home game against Cardinal on Friday, starting with the JV girls’ game at 4:30 p.m. Varsity girls and varsity boys will follow.
