New London routs Harmony in opener
The New London girls’ basketball team dominated their home and season opener against Harmony on Tuesday night, winning by a score of 78-10.
The Tigers put up 27 points in the first quarter, far more than they’d need for the win.
They went on to lead 48-8 at halftime and outscore the Rockets 30-2 in the sceond half.
Two different Tigers single-handedly outscored Harmony in the game. Sami Koontz had a game-high 25 points and Morgan Christner scored 22.
Koontz was 10-for-17 from the field, including 3-for-7 from 3-point range. She made both of her free throws.
Christner was 9-for-15 from the field and 4-for-11 from the line.
Three Tigers had six points apiece: Frankie Johnson, Breanna Stevens and Victoria Noel.
On the night, New London shot 52.3 percent from the field. They were 3-for-12 from 3-point range, and just 7-for-25 from the free throw line.
Christner had 16 rebounds for the Tigers and Paetyn Prottsman pulled down five boards.
Koontz dished five assists and had five steals. Christner had four steals and the team’s only blocks.
The Tigers start the season 1-0 and will travel to Van Buren in Keosauqua for their first road game of the year on Tuesday.
