New London softball rolls through Pekin
NEW LONDON — The New London softball team cruised to another big win on Wednesday night, defeating Pekin, 8-0.
The Tigers were led at the plate by Caitlin Chiri, Morgan Christner, Jorgi Krieger and Kristen Allen, each of whom had two hits. Krieger smacked a double and scored a run, Allen scored three runs and batted in one, Christner knocked in three runs, and Chiri had two RBIs and a run.
The Tigers also got hits from Sami Koontz, Emily Parks and Sarah Holtkamp. Koontz and Parks each had an RBI; Koontz, Holtkamp and Josten Boyer each scored a run. Boyer and Krieger stole one base each.
Christner got the win on the mound, holding Pekin scoreless through seven innings. She gave up three hits and issued one walk; she sat down 12 on strikes.
The Tigers are now 22-7 on the season and remain 6-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division.
They play at Van Buren in Keosauqua tonight (Thursday), starting with the JV game at 5:30 p.m., and then they head to Wellman on Friday morning for the Mid-Prairie Tournament, which continues on Saturday.
