NL/W-MU finishes 2-3 at dual tourney
URBANA — Kyle Davis, Brody Burns and Avery Jacobs each went 5-0 for the New London/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling team during the Center Point-Urbana duals on Saturday.
As a team, the Tigers finished 2-3 on the day. They defeated Solon, 42-38; and Clayton Ridge, 54-24; but fell to Mid-Prairie, 57-24; Oelwein, 40-34; and the hosts, Center Point-Urbana, 48-30.
Against Solon, the Tigers got three wins by forfeit and four by fall. Jairin Swailes (138), Tanner Gipple (170), Davis (220) and Jacobs (285) each pinned his opponent.
In the dual against Clayton Ridge, the Tigers got wins by fall from Tyler Schneider (132), Gabe Whaley (152), Gipple (160), Tanner Schneider (170) and Davis. They got four wins by forfeit.
Burns (145) and Davis got the only pins against Mid-Prairie; two others won by forfeit.
Four Tigers managed to pin their Oelwein opponents: Swailes, Burns, Davis and Jacobs. Gipple won by major decision, and the Tigers got their other six points from a forfeit.
Finally, against Center Point-Urbana, four Tigers won by fall and two won by decision. Burns, Gipple (170), Davis and Jacobs each got a pin, while Tyler Schneider and Swailes each picked up three points for the Tigers with a win by decision.
The Tigers now have a 6-13 dual record on the season.
They will wrestle in Wayland against WACO and Van Buren on Thursday, starting at 6:30 p.m.
