NL wrestling goes 2-1 at home
NEW LONDON — The New London wrestling team claimed a win but suffered two losses in a home meet on Thursday night.
The Tigers defeated Centerville by a score of 42-27. They fell to Van Buren, 39-30, and to Eddyville-Blakesburg, 60-12.
New London’s Brody Burns wrestled and won all three of his matches on the night.
The 160-pounder pinned Centerville’s Grant Walker in 5:42.
The Tigers also accepted six forfeits from the Big Reds for their final score.
New London had to forfeit three matches, and Centerville won two matches. There was a double forfeit at two weight classes.
Against Eddyville-Blakesburg, Burns pinned Cory Archer in 3:33. He was won of three Tigers to wrestle for a win in the dual, and Reno Chiri (120) accepted a win by forfeit.
Avery Jacobs (285) pinned Eddyville-Blakesburg’s Luke Welch in 3:49 and Cody Bartels (220) won by a 4-0 decision over Jayce Riley.
Five Tigers won their matches against Van Buren, starting with Burns’ win by fall over Samuel Dickinson in 3:15.
Bartels pinned Gabe Tedrow in just 24 seconds, and Jacobs pinned Dalton Brombaugh in 1:28.
Chiri pinned Thayne Runyon in 1:42 and Julian Wikoff (132) pinned Colt Crane in 29 seconds.
The Tigers will compete again this weekend when they travel to Wayland for WACO’s Warrior Invitational, starting at 10:30 a.m.
