The offer on the 5.2 acres of land north of Savannah Street could boast facilities that complement Endodontics Specialists L.L.C.
According to Kiley Miller, executive vice-president of Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance, Joe Vela and his wife, Kaci Vela, made the offer of $150,000 for the acreage.
“Joe Vela is one of the partners for Endodontics Specialists L.L.C.,” stated Miller, “But they aren’t the same entity who is purchasing the land now. According to what Joe Vela said, since they are coming to Mt. Pleasant they felt they could fill more space. So Joe and his wife want to purchase the adjacent ground to make that happen.”
Miller said that he is excited about the possible purchase of land and what it can do for Mt. Pleasant.
“The board of supervisors haven’t discussed the matter yet, but will during Tuesday’s (tomorrow) meeting. I think it’s great that there is this interest,” said Miller. “It sounds like they (Joe and Kaci Vela) are looking for businesses that would complement their own. It’s a great growth target for the future of Mt. Pleasant.”
According to Miller, with the highways that surround Mt. Pleasant and the connection to cities like Ottumwa and Iowa City, enhancing the area would help to draw in the outside clientele.
“When you look at economic development, it’s exactly what you want to do,” said Miller. “We need good, payable businesses like this in the area. It’s really exciting to have this interest in property.”
The Henry County Board of Supervisors will discuss the proposal during their regular meeting Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
