Olds Lions receive invitation to revitalize Leo Club
Olds Lions had their regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 10. The potluck dinner was served at 6:30 p.m. A special activity at this meeting was filling cookie bags for the elderly and shut-ins of the community, to be delivered for Christmas.
Vice President Fred Roth called the business meeting to order. Under “old business” reports were given regarding the Iowa Lion’s Bank Eye Transportation Program. “New business” included an invitation from the Wayland Lions Club concerning to revitalization of the Leo Club sponsored by the Crawfordsville, Wayland and Olds Lions Club.
Approved was an expenditure for one third of the cost of a banner for the Leo Club. Looking ahead, Olds Lions will again be sponsoring a ‘family fun soup supper night” Jan. 14. A wide variety of soups and pie will be offered along with the usual soup sides.
There will be board games and cards offered for entertainment and door prizes awarded at 7 p.m., all for a free will offering. A “tip night” at the Mt. Pleasant Pizza Ranch has been scheduled for Wednesday May 14. Money raised will go to support programs such as Iowa Lions Eye Bank, Iowa KidSight (a program that tests pre school children for possible eye deficiencies), Iowa School for the Deaf, Iowa Lions Hearing Aid Bank including Cochlear implants, Iowa Department for the Blind, Leader Dogs and a variety of camps such as Camp Courageous.
The meeting concluded with tail twister Lion Darrell Smith assessing various meaningless, frivolous fines, all for the promotion of just having a good time.
Persons interested in becoming Lions are welcome to attend regular meetings (the second Tuesday of the month at the Olds United Church of Christ) any time during the year (Sept. through May) or may contact any Lions member for more information.
