Ottumwa tops MP softball in opener
The power hitting of nine Ottumwa seniors — including two who will play NCAA DI softball next season — was too much for young Mt. Pleasant softball team, which was swept in its home and season opener by the second-ranked Bulldogs on Friday.
The Panthers lost game one, 17-0, and fell by a score of 12-0 in game two.
Mt. Pleasant had three hits on the night. Sammi Goble connected for a single in game one, while Jena Stukerjurgen and Julie Lasswell each had a hit in game two. Stukerjurgen took the loss on the mound in both games.
Next up on the Mt. Pleasant schedule is the conference opener, a home doubleheader against Ft. Madison starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
