Pairings for Class 1A boys’ basketball announced
The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the boys’ basketball district tournament and substate pairings for Class 1A and 2A.
Three Henry County teams will play in the Class 1A district tournament: New London, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union.
The New London boys’ basketball team hosts its first-round game. The Tigers will play Harmony on Monday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.
New London has not yet seen Harmony, a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division foe, but will have two opportunities to do so in the next week.
The Tigers travel to Farmington to play the Rockets on Saturday, and then host Harmony just three days later in their Tuesday night game.
The winner of the first-round district game between the teams will go on to play Class 1A top-ranked, undefeated Danville at Danville on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
WACO opens district play with a quarterfinal game against Pekin in Packwood on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
The Warriors have played the Panthers once this season and lost a close game, 57-53. They will get a chance to even the season series when they play at Pekin on Tuesday.
When the Panthers host WACO in the district tournament, the winner will advance to the semifinal and face either Keota or the winner of the first-round game between W-MU and Maharishi.
The Wolves’ game will be played in Winfield at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.
W-MU does not play Maharishi in the regular season.
If they win the home game, the Wolves will take on Keota in Keota on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
