Panther eighth-grade girls split with Edward Stone

The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls’ basketball team split in their home double-header against Edward Stone on Monday. The “A” team suffered their first loss, 20-18 in overtime, and the “B” team was victorious, 11-8.
The Panther “A” team led after each of the first three quarters. They were up, 7-2, after one quarter, 9-4, at halftime and 13-8 after three. Edward Stone managed to tie it at 16-16 in the fourth and outscored the Panthers, 4-2, in overtime to steal the win.
Avery Sutter had 11 points to lead Mt. Pleasant in the loss. Elli Liechty finished with six points and Emma Rugg had one.
In the “B” game, the Panthers won the first quarter, 5-2, and led, 9-6, at halftime. After a scoreless third from both teams, Mt. Pleasant hung on to win, 11-8. The Panthers gave up just two points in the final three quarters.
Nicole Hill led the “B” team with three points in the win. Mikayla Cakles, Christina Carthey and Karsyn Lamm each had two.
The “A” team fell to 6-1 on the season with the loss. The “B” team moved to 5-1-1 with the win.
