Panther girls falter against Edward Stone
BURLINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade girls’ basketball team dropped to 1-3 on the season with a loss in a close game against Burlington’s Edward Stone on Monday, 32-30.
The teams were tied at 10 in the first quarter, and Mt. Pleasant took a 23-17 lead into halftime. The Panthers led 29-24 at the end of the third quarter, but Edward Stone made a comeback, outscoring the Panthers 8-1 in the last few minutes for the win.
Kalynn Batey led Mt. Pleasant with 12 points and Ashlee Menke added eight. Delaney McDowell scored five and Jackie Fraise chipped in four points. Audrey Barnes scored one.
Edward Stone didn’t have enough players for a “B” game.
The Panthers play again Monday, Dec. 2, when they host Ottumwa.
