Panther girls nab six top finishes
FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Pleasant seventh-grade girls’ track and field team placed second overall at the Fairfield Relays on Monday.
The team had six first-place finishes at the meet.
Kalynn Batey won the high jump at 4-0, and Ashlee Menke took gold in the long jump at 12-8 1/2.
Three relays took first place for the Panthers.
The shuttle hurdle team of Pearl Krieger-Coble, Mikayla Beason, Menke and Batey finished in first with a time of 1:18.76.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Dani Broeker, Brianna Bowman, Jackie Fraise and Katie Ensminger won their event with a time of 2:04.89, and the sprint medley team of Beason, Chi Glaha, Fraise and Delaney McDowell crossed the line in 2:15.03 for another Panther win.
The Panthers took first and second place in the 200-meter hurdles.
Krieger-Coble won the event with a time of 33.77 seconds, followed by Batey in 34.44.
Mt. Pleasant also placed second in two relays: the 4x800 (Ashley DeKraai, Jackie Goodman, Megan Sutherland and Sami Rosell, 13:14.05) and the distance medley (Fraise, DeKraai, Hanna Schinstock and McDowell, 5:13.60).
In the 200-meter dash, Broeker was second with a time of 31.69 seconds and Brianna Bowman was third with a time of 31.69 seconds.
The Panthers also took second and third in the seven flight hurdles; Batey claimed silver with her time of 18.90 seconds, followed by Menke in 19.61.
Other third-place finishes came from the 4x100-meter relay team of Broeker, Beason, Glaha and Ensminger (59.38 seconds), the 4x400 team of Menke, Bowman, Schinstock and McDowell (5:07.25), and Ensminger in the 100-meter dash (14.82 seconds).
Krieger-Coble placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:13.68 and Fraise was fourth in the shot put at 17-6 1/2.
Baily Batten had a fifth-place finish in discus with her throw of 43-0.
The team will compete again Thursday at the Keokuk Invite, starting at 4:30 p.m.
