Panther soccer still undefeatedLong scores in overtime to give the Mt. Pleasant girls a 2-1 win over HTC
WEST POINT — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ soccer team traveled to play Holy Trinity and came out on top, 2-1, in overtime to remain undefeated on the season (5-0 overall, 3-0 SEC).
The scoring was again led by forwards Megan Myers and Holly Long. Myers scored on a free kick with 3:35 remaining in the first half to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Panthers at half.
Holy Trinity tied the match with 20 minutes remaining on a penalty kick and the score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation.
Long received a pass from Amber Hainline and put it in goal just 1:10 in the first overtime to give the Panthers the win.
“The victory came as a total team effort against a very disciplined Holy Trinity team,” Coach Ed Chabal said. “The defense again played strong, the midfielders ran the field well and the forwards kept the pressure on their defense.
“Midfielders Amber Hainline and Erin Watt played very well in going to the ball and distributing it to the forwards,” he added. “Keeper Lauren Hillman made some great choices in coming off her line and going to the ball.”
Hillman recorded eight saves on the evening.
The Panthers return home for a Varsity only match with Burlington Notre Dame on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
