Panther tennis teams defeat ND/WB
The Mt. Pleasant girls’ tennis team remains undefeated after a 6-3 victory against Notre Dame/West Burlington on Tuesday, and the boys won every match of their home meet against the Nikes yesterday afternoon.
The Panther girls move to 4-0 with the nonconference win, and the boys are now 4-1 on the season.
In the girls’ meet, singles wins for the Panthers came from No. 3 Elizabeth Shaw, who defeated Darien Ringold by a score of 8-5; No. 4 Ashton Whaley, who beat Courtney Cooper, 8-4; No. 5 Lorynn Whaley, who topped Madison Fry, 8-5; and No. 6 Raeanna Crile, who took down Kelsi Yocum by a score of 8-0.
Shaw, Ashton Whaley and Crile each move to 4-0 on the season as individuals; Lorynn Whaley is now 2-1.
In doubles play, Taylor Beatty and Tasha Glover teamed up to top Stephanie Wills and Jenna Stewart by a score of 8-2. The Mt. Pleasant doubles team is now 4-0 on the season, and so is the team of Crile and Hatfield, which defeated the Notre Dame/West Burlington team of Fry and Kelly by a score of 8-6.
In the boys’ meet, the Panthers won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. No. 1 Zach Schmitz topped Baron West, 8-4; No. 2 Matt Zihlman defeated Jarod Fogle by the same score, and No. 3 Tyler Pace took down James Lui by a score of 8-1.
No. 4 Blake Wickham and No. 6 Colton Schinstock also won 8-1 in their matches against Cam Guihan and Devon Rouse, and No. 5 Austin Meyer picked up an 8-0 victory over Agusto Quiroz.
In doubles play, the team of Schmitz and Pace beat West and Lui, 8-0. Zihlman and Wickham picked up an 8-1 win over Rouse and Quiroz.
Meyer and Schinstock preserved the Panthers’ perfect score when they eked out a 9-7 win over Fogle and Guihan.
The Panthers play again Thursday against Fairfield. The girls travel to Fairfield and the boys host the Trojans at East Lake Park. Both meets start at 4:30 p.m.
