Panther track and field teams run at Central College

PELLA — The Mt. Pleasant track and field teams were both in Pella this weekend for the Central Indoor Meet at Central College.
The boys’ team ran their meet on Friday night and picked up 13 top-eight finishes including four in the top three.
The girls’ team ran on Saturday and had six top-eight finishes including two top-three placements.
The 1600-meter duo of Logan Murray and Cody Mertens had the best results of the night on Friday. Murray won the event, in 4:34.84. Mertens wasn’t far behind him with a third-place finish of 4:41.76.
Murray had two top-eight finishes on the day. He added a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run, in 2:12.81.
Jake Lowe had a couple of top-eight finishes as well. He placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 8.52 seconds and a final time of 8.57 seconds.
Lowe also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash, finishing the race in 24.15 seconds.
The Panther boys had three top-eight finishes in the long jump. Keegan Rich was fifth, with a leap of 19-03.50. Rylan Seberg was sixth, with a 19-01.50, and Avante Henley tied for eighth, with a n 18-08.
Jonathan Ita jumped a 5-10 in the high jump competition, which put him in a tie for sixth.
The relay teams brought home four top-eight finishes for the Panther boys. The 4X800 team was second, in 8:43.70 to lead the way.
Panther relay teams took two top-eight finishes in the 4X400 team. The top Mt. Pleasant team finished fifth, in 3:51.70, and the second team was seventh, in 3:52.64.
The 4X200 team was eighth, in 1:42.89, to round out the top MPCHS relay teams.
In Saturday’s girls’ meet, Taylor Murray led the way with two top-four finishes. She won the 800-meter run, in 2:34.32, and took fourth in the 400-meter run, in 1:04.22.
Abby Ryon gave the Panther distance group another top-four win. She placed third in the 1500-meter run, in 5:15.04.
Allison Buckert took home two top-eight finishes individually. She placed fourth in the long jump, with a 15-02, and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles, in 10.09 seconds.
Grace Bittle rounded out the top-eight scorers for the Panther girls with an eighth-place finish in the shot put. She threw a 33-04.
Both Mt. Pleasant teams will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21. The boys will be at Case Field in Washington, at 3:30 p.m. The girls will be in Iowa City, at 4:30 p.m.
