Panthers roll through Louisa-Muscatine
The Mt. Pleasant bowling teams swept Louisa-Muscatine in a meet on Saturday at Iris Bowling Center in Mt. Pleasant — the boys’ team rolled a season best score of 3,105 to top the Falcons’ score of 2,924, while the Panther girls claimed a 2,509-1,969 win.
“The varsity boys rolled extremely well,” Coach Troy Mears said. “They beat a very good L&M team that placed high at the state bowling meet last season. The 3,105 score was, by far, a season best. It may actually be an all-time best in school history.”
The Panthers were led by Cameron Sammons’ score of 424 on games of 202 and 222. Jacob Swailes had a nearly identical day, finishing right behind Sammons with a score of 423 on games of 202 and 221.
Two other Panthers were also over 400: Brock Palar rolled a 419 on games of 216 and 203, and Clayton Sammons finished with a 406 on games of 201 and 205.
Jordan Meyer rolled a 362 on games of 177 and 185, while Wolfgang Schumacher finished with a 360 on games of 181 and 179.
“(The boys’ score) shows that they are very capable of competing with anyone in the state when they put it all together like they did in this meet,” Mears said. “I was very proud of their performance all the way around.”
The team is now 4-1 on the season.
The girls’ team was led by Tori Roe with a score of 452, and Chelsea Sammons rolled a 414.
“Tori Roe and Chelsea Sammons really stepped up and helped lead the varsity girls’ team to victory to keep their undefeated season intact,” Mears said. “Sammons has been on a roll this year and has one of the highest game averages in the state in Class 1A.”
In Saturday’s meet, Roe rolled consistently, with games of 227 and 225 for her total score.
Chelsea Sammons had games of 194 and 220 for her total.
She was followed by Tasha Glover with a score of 351 on games of 166 and 185, while Maddie Kirchner finished with a 290 on games of 154 and 136.
Emma Overton rolled games of 134 and 135 for a total of 269, while Jacque Gerleman scored 105 and 127 for a total of 232.
The team remains undefeated at 5-0 this season.
“They will all have to roll well next week when the always tough Keokuk Chiefs come to town,” Mears said.
The Mt. Pleasant JV bowling teams also competed on Saturday.
The Panther boys defeated the Falcons by a score of 2,225-2,083, improving to 5-0 on the season.
The Mt. Pleasant girls rolled a score of 1,909. L&M did not have a JV team.
The girls’ team is also 5-0 on the season.
Caleb Steinhoff led the JV boys team with a 325 series and Sara Smith led the JV girls with a 292 series.
JV and varsity will bowl again next Saturday at Iris Bowling Center against Keokuk.
This will be the last home meet of the season, so all seniors will be recognized before the meet begins.
