Panthers take on Keokuk
The Mt. Pleasant eighth-grade volleyball “A” team defeated Keokuk on the road Tuesday, while the “B” team fell to the Chiefs and the “C” team split a pair of games.
The A team won by scores of 21-15 and 21-14 to improve its record to 1-1.
Ashley Menke went 10-for-10 serving, while Jackie Fraise was 9-for-10.
In the B match, Mt. Pleasant lost a close first set, 22-20, and then fell by a score of 21-14 in the second set. They are now 0-1-1.
Chloe Beavers went 10-for-11 serving. Ashley De Kraai and Julia Pross were each 6-for-7.
In the C match, Mt. Pleasant lost the first set, 21-18, but came back to win the second, 21-17. They are now 1-0-1.
Keri Herr was a perfect 5-for-5 serving.
The Panthers’ seventh-grade team hosted Keokuk Tuesday. The “A” team lost in three sets to the Chiefs. The “B” and “C” teams were swept by the visitors, but the “D” team came up with a two-game win.
In the A match, the Panthers fell by a score of 21-19 in the first game before coming back to win game two, 21-15. The tiebreaker went to the Chiefs, however, by a score of 15-9.
Keelyn McNamee was 15-for-17 serving with a team-high 10 aces.
Mikayla Cam went 9-for-12 with eight ace serves.
Chloe Kruse was 4-for-5 serving with a pair of aces, while Hannah Hess and Callie DePriest also each served an ace.
In the B match, Mt. Pleasant lost two close games, falling by scores of 21-18 and 21-19.
Carson Miller was a perfect 7-for-7 serving with four aces. Grace Bittle went 4-for-4 with two aces and Emme Kraus was five-for-six with three ace serves.
Emmalee Stewart and Shaleen Thiengmany each went 4-for-5 serving; Thiengmany had two aces and Stewart served one.
The C team fell to Keokuk by a score of 21-7 in game one. The Panthers played a close game in the second set but still fell short, losing 21-19.
Emma Garmoe had six aces on 7-of-10 serving. Maddie Van De Berg had two aces and Breanna Runyon served one.
In the D match, Mt. Pleasant ran away with game one, winning 21-12, and the Panthers held off Keokuk in game two for another win, 23-21.
Tylisa Kelly went 9-for-11 serving with a team-high eight aces. Necole Hunter-Wiggins had five aces on 12-of-14 serving.
Mailie Phanthouvong and Meadow Jensen had a pair of aces each.
The Mt. Pleaasnt eighth-grade volleyball team will play again today (Thursday) when it hosts Ft. Madison at 4:30 p.m.
The seventh-grade team plays at Ft. Madison today, starting at 4:30 p.m.
