Panthers win 7 events, take second at Hawk Relays
WELLMAN — The Mt. Pleasant boys’ track and field team won seven events but came up nine points shy of a team title in last night’s Hawk Co-Ed Relays, hosted by Mid-Prairie.
In field events, Dustin Amos led the team with a 6-2 high jump for first place.
On the track, Logan Murray won two events — he took the 3,200-meter run title in 10:16.43 and came back later to win the mile in 4:45.64.
Other individual wins came from Spencer White in the 400 hurdles (56.59 seconds) and Cole Phillips in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.15 seconds). White was second in the 110 hurdles, helping the Panthers net 18 team points in that event.
The shuttle hurdle team of Blake Knudsen, Trey Magnani, Zach Mulford and White broke the tape in 1:02.31, and the Panthers’ distance medley team of Dshundric Foster, Justin Chalupa, Alex Carrasco and Josh Beelman won its event in 3:58.38.
The Panthers racked up 117 points as a team, finishing behind Williamsburg with 126.
Mt. Pleasant came in ahead of host Mid-Prairie (75), Washington (49), Grinnell (43), Eddyville-Blakesburg (39), Columbus (36), Wilton (35), West Liberty (27) and Midland (11).
More top-six results for the Panthers are listed at right.
Mt. Pleasant send some athletes to compete at the Drake Relays this weekend, and others will be at Eddyville Blakesburg on Thursday. The full squad competes again at Davis County on April 29.
