Panthers, Wolves compete at Wilton Tournament
WILTON — Mt. Pleasant volleyball was dealt its first losses of the season over the weekend, as the Panthers went 2-3 at the Wilton Tournament.
Winfield-Mt. Union also competed at Wilton, and also finished with a 2-3 record on the day.
The Panthers topped W-MU in the tournament, winning by scores of 21-16 and 21-13.
The Panthers also defeated Midland, but lost to IMS, Durant, and the host team.
W-MU also fell to Midland, as well as IMS. The Wolves defeated Wilton and Durant.
On the day, Mt. Pleasant had five hitters in double figures, led by Kelsi Phipps with 23 kills.
Taryne Shull was close behind with 21 kills, while Lydia Smith came up with 14, Mary Wester put down 11 and Hannah Becker had 10.
Phipps also had a team-high 13 blocks.
Ashley Loving had 51 assists and Hannah Becker had 41.
Brianne Potts came up with a team-high 38 digs for the Panthers and Brianne Holtkamp added 36. Loving had 27 digs, while Shull had 17 and Becker contributed 16.
Potts also led the team in serving with eight aces on 31-for-31 serving.
Shull and Holtkamp served five aces each.
For the Wolves, Erica Robison put down 27 kills.
Shelby Therme added 21 kills and Lou Krieger-Coen came up with 10.
Emily Mathews put up 10 blocks and Robison contributed nine.
Taylor Rodgers had 31 assists and Brooke Jennings had 29.
Therme led the team with 36 digs, and Layne Davis had 20.
In serving, Therme went 35-for-38 with a team-high five aces. Davis was 32-for-33 with a pair of aces.
W-MU is now 9-5 overall and remains 2-0 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division. They play today (Tuesday) at IMS.
Mt. Pleasant is 10-3 on the season and plays at Ft. Madison tonight.
