Pekin defeats Wolves
The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team came up with nine hits but managed only two runs in a loss to Pekin on Thursday.
The Wolves fell by a score of 12-2 to the host team, dropping them to 1-2 on the season.
Pekin put up two runs in the first inning, added two more in the second, scored four in the fourth and then tacked on another pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
W-MU scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Leading the Wolves at the plate were Sam Jamison and Nicole Escher, each of whom went 2-for-3. Jamison scored a run.
Other hits came from Paige Breon, Sophie Kongable, Darby Harris, Lindsey Schick and Caitlin Jamison. Caitlin Jamison scored the team’s other run and Breon stole a base.
Breon and Kayla Coberly each pitched three innings for W-MU; Breon started the game and took the loss. She gave up seven hits and four walks for six earned runs. She struck out three. Coberly gave up seven hits and one walk for six earned runs; she fanned two.
Next up for W-MU is a trip to Mediapolis on Tuesday when they take on the Bullettes, starting with the JV game at 5:30 p.m.
