Postseason play to begin next week
Postseason information has been released for Henry County baseball and softball teams.
The Mt. Pleasant softball is in Class 4A Region 6 and will take on Fairfield in its first-round game, which will be Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. in Fairfield. The winner of that contest will play Oskaloosa in Oskaloosa on Saturday, July 13. The other side of the Region 6 bracket includes teams from Knoxville, Pella and Winterset, and the regional final will be on July 16 in Winterset.
In Class 1A, New London, Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO are all in Region 6 as well. W-MU opens regional play against Danville at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 8, in Danville. The winner of that contest travels to Wayland to play WACO on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m.
New London will also play on July 10, against the winner of the July 8 game between Harmony and Moulton-Udell. The Tigers’ game will be at 7 p.m. in Moulton. The winner of New London’s game and the winner of WACO’s game will play each other in Danville on Friday, July 12, in the regional semifinal.
In baseball, Winfield-Mt. Union will play in Class 1A District 8, starting with a game against Danville on July 16. That game will be at Danville at 7 p.m.
Mt. Pleasant’s district tournament begins on Friday, July 19. Pairings for Class 3A have not yet been released, but the Panthers are in Substate 4, along with teams from Centerville, Chariton, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Washington. District hosts will be Fairfield and Centerville; the substate host is yet to be determined.
