If you are age 55 or older, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) wants you to volunteer.
“We need to double our number of volunteers for the county,” said Carol Dustman, RSVP coordinator.
RSVP is now under the sponsorship of The Fellowship Cup. Executive Director Melisa Bracht-Wagner said that although they are excited bout taking on the program, they are in desperate need of new volunteers.
“We also have to write the grant for the next three years of RSVP in a month. In order to be successful in this grant, we need 75 new volunteers in a month,” said Melisa Bracht-Wagner. “Otherwise, as a writer of a grant, I don’t know how successful we’ll be able to bring the program back to Henry County.”
Bracht-Wagner said that the program came to The Fellowship Cup with 58 volunteers and they need to have 127.
RSVP volunteers must be age 55 and older and can live anywhere in Henry County. There are around 25 different organizations that use RSVP volunteers — for everything from medical transportation to doing mailings for non-profit groups.
In order to help recruit new volunteers, The Fellowship Cup will be holding a volunteer and activity fair on July 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be tables with information on volunteering possibilities.
“People will be able to see what activities they can be in and what they can take part in in the county,” said Dustman. “There’s many organizations that can use the help, so we’re hoping to help the county.”
In addition to information on volunteer opportunities, there will also be a mini health fair with some health checks available.
“We’re advertising it as an activity fair, as a volunteer fair and also as a health fair, thinking that somebody will come in for something,” said Bracht-Wagner. “If we can just get one person for every three that walk in the door, we’ll still be short, but we’ll be better.”
The fair will be located at The Fellowship Cup, 203 North Jefferson Street, Mt. Pleasant.
