Robert D. ‘Bob’ Connop
Robert D. “Bob” Connop, 88, died at Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, on Feb. 3, 2017.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at Mt. Union United Methodist Church, with burial at Trinity Cemetery. Rev. Randy Moser will officiate. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, and family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at Elliott Chapel, in New London. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Union United Methodist Church or Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Connop was born on Sept. 14, 1928, in Burlington, the only child of Thomas Henry and Ethel Smith Connop. After graduating high school in Mt. Union in 1947, he attended Iowa State University (then Iowa State College) for two years. He married Verlee Maxine Gittings on Jan. 10, 1951. She preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.
After being discharged from the Army, he became a farmer.
He was of the Christian faith and was a member of Mt. Union United Methodist Church.
He was a Cubs fan and enjoyed golf, camping, fishing, socializing, and spending time with his friends and family.
Connop is survived by his three sons, Tom (Lisa) Connop, of Dallas, Texas, David Connop, of Mt. Pleasant, and Rick (Rhonda) Connop, of Winfield; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
