Robert M. “Keppy” Kephart, 64, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. Father Joseph Phung will celebrate the mass. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the mass. The Kimzey Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, is assisting the family with the arrangements. He was born June 3, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Rodney E. and Mary Jo (nee Bogie) Kephart. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1966. On April 4, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Judith Ann Housh.

He entered the United States Air Force in September of 1966. He served in corrosion control at the airbase in Maguire, N.J. He was honorably discharged in 1971. After his marriage, he made his home in Newton, where he was the assistant manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store. He returned to Mt. Pleasant in 1977 where he accepted a position as the Assistant Director of Public Works for the city. He later became the Director of the Public Works Department. He retired in 2011.

He was the owner and operator of Keppy’s Stripping and Refinishing, a wood restoration business. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was a partner in RBR Recreation, a camping area on the Skunk River, where he loved to camp and fish. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Jennifer Kerr Kohorst and Heather (Nick) Ridenour, all of Mt. Pleasant; his mother of Rockton, Ill.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond Schenk of Stafford, Texas and Ricky, Michael and Terry Schenk, all of Rockton, Ill.; and two sisters, Carol Kephart of Donnellson and Sandy (Mike) Cofoid of Rockton, Ill.

His father and son-in-law, Keith Kohorst, preceded him in death.
