Romanus Henry Stuekerjuergen
Romanus Henry Stuekerjuergen passed away September 16, 2013 in Georgetown, Texas.
He was born April 24, 1919, in Salem, Iowa to Frederick Joseph Stuekerjuergen and Sophia C. Batenhorst. He was the second of eight children.
He grew up on the family farm near Houghton, Iowa and attended St. Johns Catholic School in Houghton. He joined the Army Air Corps, trained as an aircraft mechanic at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois, and maintained WWII P-38, P-40, P-47 and P-51 fighter planes at Foster Field in Victoria, Texas. He served as line crew chief and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving service.
While stationed at Foster Field, he met and married Helen Elaine Vogt. On June 19, 2013, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
After discharge from service, the couple moved to Iowa and engaged in farming until he retired. In 1988, they returned to Victoria, Texas, where he was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1329 and the American Legion. In 2012, they relocated to Providence Crossing Independent Living in Round Rock, Texas. They became members of St. William Catholic Church.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Gilbert and Robert; sisters, Rita Joest and Mildred Whitely; and grandson, Shawn Alan Stuekerjuergen.
Romanus is survived by his wife, Helen; sisters, Generose Denning, Agnella Menke and Wilma Danze; and sister-in-law, Rose Stuekerjuergen. Surviving children are son, Dennis Alan (Leah) of Garland, Texas; daughters, Carol Elaine Town (Michael) of Georgetown, Texas and Jean Rae Rogers-Warren (Richard) of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, September, 19, 2013 at St. Williams Catholic Church, Round Rock, Texas. Military honors will follow.
Committal service and entombment will be 1 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2013 at Resurrection Cemetery, Victoria, Texas,
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Victoria, Texas, to the Wounded Warrior Project or to a charity of choice.
