Ross Victor Lange
Ross Victor Lange, 90, Chariton, died on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church, 1004 Curtis Ave, Chariton, with the Rev. Rich Gates officiating. Family will greet friends and family at a luncheon following the service. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the First Augustana Lutheran Church ELCA in Lockridge, or the American Heart Association.
Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on July 23, 1922, in Shelby County, the only child of Mads and Freda (Petersen) Lange. He graduated from the Audubon High School in 1939. After high school he worked with his father on the farm and helped run the family seed corn business (Lange Hybrids) in Shelby County.
On Feb. 25, 1950, he married Dorothy (Petersen) in Atlantic. They moved to Ft. Dodge where he worked several years as a sales man for Gus Glaser Meat Company. The family later moved to Clarke County where he farmed and also sold Harvestor silos and Purina Feeds. The family then relocated to a farm in Adair County near Greenfield. Later in life, they left the farm, moving to Des Moines where he sold real estate.
After semi-retirement, they moved to the Mt. Pleasant area where he continued to work. He enjoyed visiting with people and being outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a current member of the First Augustana Lutheran Church ELCA in Lockridge.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Linda (Dr. Tom) Schilling of Corydon; three sons, Donald (Marcia) Lange of Osceola, Randall Lange of St. Charles, and Scott (Sandra) Lange of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law, JoAnn Petersen of Manning.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
