Ruth Carter, 88, of rural Douds died on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center, in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at Pedrick Funeral Home, in Douds, with Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Visitation with family will be from 3 to 5 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home in Douds. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, in Douds.
Memorials to Mt. Moriah Cemetery or Van Buren High School Sports Boosters may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 11924 Gray Avenue, Douds, Iowa 52551.
Carter was born on Feb. 16, 1928, in rural Birmingham, the daughter of Earl M. and Hazel B. Carl Filson. She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1946. She married Fred W. Carter on Aug. 11, 1951, in the Eldon Methodist Church.
She farmed alongside her husband west of Bladensburg, and then moved north of Douds to a farm. She was also a homemaker.
She enjoyed attending Van Buren High School basketball games, cooking Sunday dinner, and spending time with her family.
Carter is survived by her husband, Fred; a son, Ron (Cathy) Carter, of Douds; a daughter, Debra (Dan) Loftus, of Douds; two brothers, Raymond Filson and Van (Barb) Filson, all of Birmingham; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Danny Carter.
