Girls’ track and field
Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO competed in the W-MU Invitational Thursday night. The Wolves were led by Lou Krieger-Coen in the discus (first place, 120-8 1/2). Emily Mathews and Karlie Wade went 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles (17.16 and 17.74 seconds, respectively). First-place finishes for WACO came from Rosemary Skriver in the high jump (4-4) and the 4x100 team of Angel Frier, Skriver, Jennie Greene and Katelyn White (54.72).
Mt. Pleasant won the team title in the 13-team field at the Tipton Relays on Thursday. First-place finishes came from the shuttle hurdle team of Allison Buckert, Sidney Taylor, Leslie Taylor and Kelsi Phipps (1:08.36), Leslie Taylor in the long jump (16-8), Mary Wester in discus (127-4) and shot put (38-7), and the 4x200 team of Laura Hult, Hannah Becker, Phipps and Leslie Taylor (season-best 1:49.9).
Mt. Pleasant boys 2
Keokuk got on the board first, but the Panthers came back with second-half goals by Nike Phillips and Yiannis Steryiannis. Steryiannis, assisted by Ryan Hutchinson, scored the game winner with 6:18 left to play. Alex Le had six saves in goal. Le replaces goalkeeper Noah Brown, who is out for the rest of the season with injury. The Panthers are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Southeast Conference.

The Panthers allowed just one goal in the first half, but the Chiefs were able to take advantage of lapses in the defense in the last 40 minutes to run away with the conference match. Panthers are now 0-3.
