NEW LONDON — The second-ranked New London boys saw their undefeated season come to an end on Friday night against West Burlington.
The Tiger boys had a disastrous first half and didn’t have enough time to come back, falling 77-61 for their first loss of the season. The girls had a different outcome, winning 43-24.
The Falcon boys were hungry for revenge after a home loss earlier to the Tigers.
West Burlington took full advantage of the absence of injured star Ben Dentlinger, jumping out to a 20-15 lead after one period and dominating the second quarter to lead 47-23 at halftime.
New London regrouped at halftime and had their best period in the third. The Tigers outscored the Falcons 24-14 in the third and led 61-47 after three periods.
The Tigers ran out of steam in the fourth, however, and the Falcons held on for a 16-point win.
Mason Porter had 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the loss. Isaac McSorley had 11 points, five steals and four assists. Alex Dentlinger and Keontae Luckett scored 10 points apiece. Justin Henecke had six and Grant Swanson scored four.
The girls were in a tight game the whole way through. The Tigers led 18-16 at halftime and 25-20 after three periods before blowing it open in the fourth.
New London cruised through the final period, winning it 18-14, and came away with the 19-point win.
Madysen Wahls had a huge game. She led the team with 20 points, five assists and four steals. Breanna Mettler had eight points. Camryn Blint scored seven. Alisha Boles had six points and seven rebounds and Alexa Wenger had two.
