SEISO announces annual concert
Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra will present its 10th annual Messiah - Sing!, an audience sing-along concert experience, at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel Auditorium, Mt. Pleasant. Under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Bradley Miller, the orchestra, student and professional soloists and the audience/chorus will perform G. F. Handel’s immortal Christmas classic “Messiah.”
The concert will consist of the Christmas portion as well as selected parts from the remainder of the work, including the Hallelujah Chorus. SEISO’s performance of Messiah – Sing! is supported in part through the generosity of KILJ radio, Paul and Joyce Dennison of Mt. Pleasant and Iowa Wesleyan College.
SEISO is proud to present both student and professional soloists for this very special concert. The soloists are as follows: Steven Jepson, Loretta Crosthwaite, Maria Beaukamp and Jordon Poehlman (Iowa City); Tim Ahern (Southeastern Community College faculty - West Burlington); Brenda Randall (Swedesburg); Aaron Warner (IWC grad living in Bettendorf); Laura Wiebe (Indian Hills Community College faculty); Jacqueline Lang (Ottumwa); Jessica Gates-Long (Ft. Madison); Priscilla Lalaga (IWC grad living in Wayland); and Phil Schroetter (Mt. Pleasant). Guest conductor, Dr. Bradley Miller is in his third year as director of choral activities at Iowa Wesleyan College and also serves as director of the Mt. Pleasant Chorale.
Concert tickets will be available at the door for purchase. People who wish to sing will be seated in their respective vocal sections. However, groups of friends and families, who wish to sit and sing together, may do so. All participants are asked to bring their own vocal scores. The orchestra will perform the G. Schirmer edition, and scores are available from area music stores, including Eble Music Company in Iowa City. SEISO will also have scores available for sale at the door.
This special event has become a holiday tradition providing a memorable experience for music lovers to perform for themselves Handel's masterpiece with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra. As always, those who wish to attend this concert to listen to the music are most welcome.
