Shirley Ann Hunter
Shirley Ann Hunter, 83, of New London died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at Elliott Chapel, New London. The Rev. Charles Corns officiated. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, rural New London, at a later date. A memorial has been established to Burlington First Church of the Nazarene.
She was born Aug. 6, 1929, in rural Burlington, the daughter of Benjamin Haevidis Brunken and Ruby May Kemp Haevidis Brunken. On June 20, 1947, she married Ivan Merle Hunter in Burlington.
She enjoyed caring for children in her home for more than 30 years, retiring in 1996. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and a member of the Burlington First Church of the Nazarene. She was a seamstress.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Stephen Merle (Phyllis) Hunter of Cedar Falls, and Kent Alan (Lorrie) Hunter of Poulsbo, Wash.; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Marilyn L. Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Eugene Brunken.
