Shirrel Ann Dowd
Shirrel Ann Dowd, 76, Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Born Oct. 20, 1937, in rural Birmingham, she was the daughter of Clem and Ina (Dille) Hootman. She graduated from Birmingham High School. On Sept. 8, 1956, she married Richard Lee Dowd. He preceded her in death.
She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. For 30 years she was a production worker at Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant.
She loved horses, watching NASCAR and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching Hawkeye football and basketball games, mushroom hunting, jigsaw puzzles, playing computer games and reading.
Survivors include a son, Joe (Cindy) Dowd of Ankeny; two daughters, Cindy (Bill) Myers, of New London, and April (Rob) Wagler of Mt. Union; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; seven brothers, Harold, Donovan “Dode”, Rex, Dean, Keith, Ray and Verle Lee Hootman; and one sister, Liz “Reva” Dossett.
