Shulll signs with St. Bonaventure
Mt. Pleasant’s Taryne Shull has signed her letter of intent to attend St. Bonaventure University and play basketball for the NCAA Division I Bonnies next year.
Family, friends and teammates came to see Shull, a senior, sign the letter at the high school’s media center yesterday afternoon.
Shull, a six-foot forward, made a verbal commitment to St. Bonaventure, located in western New York, in July.
“I went on my unofficial visit in June, and talked about their style of play — they run a five-out motion offense, which I’m really used to,” Shull said. “I also had a good connection with the coaches.”
Spending time with her new coaches and teammates is one of the things Shull it looking forward to most about playing basketball at the next level.
“(I look forward to) developing relationships with the players and the coaches — I love meeting new people,” Shull said.
At Mt. Pleasant, Shull played volleyball and basketball and competed in track as well. But when she had to pick a sport to continue her athletic career in, it was an easy choice.
“(Basketball) has always been my favorite sport,” she said. “I grew up playing it year round.”
She often played with and against her older sister, Taylor Shull, who is now part of the basketball team at another DI school — Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
Taryne Shull intends to major in sports management at St. Bonaventure.
“I want to do something sports related,” she said.
The Bonnies, who are coached by Jim Crowley, went 10-19 overall last year in women’s basketball. They were 3-11 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
