Al Olson of the Washington Lions Club, an Iowa KidSight trainer, and his wife, Lorna, conducted an eyesight screening this week at the Sonshine Academy at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. Olson said the program of the Iowa Lions screens over 30,000 children — ages 6 months to 4 years — annually. The screening detects near- and far-sightedness, cataracts and stigmatisms. He said about 5 percent of the children are referred to local optometrists. Olson said he has been involved in the project since its inception in 2000.
