Stanley G. Thomson, 91, Mt. Pleasant, died Friday March 28, 2014 at home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 31, at Faith United Methodist Church, Libertyville with The Rev. Beth Bell officiating. Visitation with family present will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery, rural Libertyville. Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 404 East Becky Lane, Mt. Pleasant, 52641. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua is handling the arrangements
He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Libertyville to George Ruben and Fern Margurite Riniker Thomson. He graduated from Libertyville High School in 1941, helped his parents on the farm and began driving trucks at age 18. He later became an over-the-road semi driver and retired from Consolidated Freightways, Peru, Ill., at the age of 62. He was a hunter and fisherman, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fairfield and had enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas, the past 14 years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Parcel; two sons, Philip Parcel of Batavia and Galen Thomson (Danielle) of Olds; three daughters, Leola Romine of Batavia, Rene (Gerald) Messino of Colfax, Ill. and Miriam Thomson of Kahoka, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
His parents and an infant sister preceded him in death.
