An accident Sunday afternoon on the east side of Mt. Pleasant not only caused damage to a vehicle but also a utility pole. The accident occurred at the intersection of South Haynes Street and East Monroe Street when a car sheared off a portion of a utility pole. The impact caused the car to come to rest on its side. According to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, the accident occurred at 5:19 p.m. and did disrupt electrical service to a portion of the neighborhood for a short time. In addition to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and Henry County Ambulance responded at the scene. No other information was available on the accident at presstime.
