Sunday mishap claims Mt. Pleasant man
FT. MADISON — A Mt. Pleasant man died in a one-car accident Sunday, Sept. 1, one mile northwest of Ft. Madison.
Jonathan Wayne Selby, 20, Mt. Pleasant, was westbound on County Road 103 when he was distracted, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s office. Selby’s car left the roadway, rolling several times before coming to rest.
There were two passengers in the Selby vehicle — Megan Gonzalez, 18, Mt. Pleasant, and Christopher James Hines, 33, Des Moines.
Selby and Hines, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle. Selby was taken by air ambulance to Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill., where he later died from his injuries.
Hines, who was a backseat passenger, suffered severe injuries and was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Gonzalez, who was in the front seat, was wearing a seat belt and not injured. She was transported from the accident scene by private vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation.
