T. T. T. Tour of Homes: The Mitchell’s
Vern and Sue Mitchell have lived at 1012 Westwood Drive for 17 years. The Mitchell’s will be decorating their home for Christmas for the tour this year.
The house was built in 1959-60 by Leo and Leila Kennedy. The Kennedy’s lived there for 24 years before moving to a house across the pond.
Leila Kennedy liked the brick wall that went along the kitchen and into the living room surrounding the fireplace.
The purpose for the unusual placement of the fireplace (there is no seating around the fireplace) was because, according to Sue Mitchell, “Mrs. Kennedy wanted the fireplace to be the first thing her guests saw when they came in the front door.”
Inside the home it is decorated for the holidays. A tree inside the door boasts many crystal ornaments, like butterflies, dragon flies and stars.
“You just have to see it at night. All the lights are on and it is just really something to see,” Vern Mitchell said. “There are lights in the kitchen, bathroom, hallways and even downstairs.”
The T.T.T. Tour of Homes begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, and runs until 5 p.m. There are three homes featured as well as the Airport Road Vineyard.
Tickets are available for purchase from any T.T.T. Chapter DD member, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Jerry’s Restaurant or at the doors of the homes.
