‘The Voice’ runner-up Meghan Linsey coming to Burlington Jan. 7
Meghan Linsey, runner-up on “The Voice” in 2015, will bring her soulful and distinctive performance to Burlington Capitol Theater’s stage Saturday, Jan. 7.
The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.
According to Rolling Stone, Linsey “marries soul, blues, rock, country and even a little gospel in a unique, captivating sound that has seemingly no ceiling to its range.”
At 14, she started performing with her band and a year later, Linsey was opening for national acts, including Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton, at events throughout Louisiana and Texas. After graduating from high school, she moved to Nashville and enrolled at Belmont University to study music. She also continued to write songs and play shows. To earn additional money, Linsey hosted karaoke at a bar in downtown Nashville. There she met Joshua Scott Jones, and they began writing and performing together as Steel Magnolia.
The duo caught the attention of the producers of Country Music Television’s game show, “Can You Duet?”, which they won. The duo eventually earned a recording contract with Big Machine Records.
Their first single, "Keep on Loving You," was the highest charting debut single from a male/female duo in country music history. Steel Magnolia sold nearly one million downloads and albums, appeared on national television shows and toured with Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Reba McIntire and Bob Seger.
In 2013, Linsey and Jones parted ways to pursue solo careers. In 2015, Linsey became a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice”, and the show’s judges crowned her that season’s runner-up. Linsey also was the first contestant on “The Voice” to perform an original song.
She released her most-recent single, “Exes and Friends,” on Nov. 1, 2016.
Opening for Linsey is Roseville, Ill., native, Shaniah Paige. Named 2016 Fresh New Face of Country Music by Renegade Radio Nashville, Paige released her latest single, “Be Somebody,” in November 2016.
