Tiger golf teams win opener
The New London golf teams opened their season with a pair of wins against Columbus on Tuesday.
The Tiger boys’ team narrowly defeated Columbus by a score of 179-180, while the girls’ team ran away with a 194-231 decision.
New London’s Hagin Gillis earned medalist honors on the boys’ side of the meet, scoring 39.
Tristan Kadel competed in the course in 42 strokes for New London, and Kyle Hill carded a 44. Jayden Flowers scored 54 to round out the team total.
Cody Bartels also played varsity for New London, scoring 55, and Cole Helmerson shot a 61.
Ethan Leyden led Columbus with a score of 42. Other scorers for the Wildcats were Eli Sents (44), Alex Mincer (46) and Zac Howell (48).
On the girls’ side, New London’s Jorgi Krieger was the medalist with a score of 45, and Emma Pry was right behind her with a score of 46.
Morgan Oliver shot a 50 and Breanna Stevens carded a 53 for the team total.
Paetyn Prottsman and Frankie Johnson also played for the New London varsity team, scoring 54 and 56, respectively.
Lizzie Duncan scored a 49 to lead Columbus; Kortney Orr (54), Emily Duncan (62) and Grace Chapman (66) also scored for the Wildcats.
Next up for the Tigers is another home meet. They are scheduled to host Louisa-Muscatine at Deerwood Golf Club at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
