Tiger volleyball takes two at home tourney
The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball team picked up a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins Saturday, moving to 2-1 in conference play on the season.
The Tigers hosted the first SLIAC Quad Tournament of the year, which brought Blackburn College, Eureka College and Greenville College to Mt. Pleasant.
The Tigers took on Blackburn in their first match of the day, pouncing on them in a three-set sweep. The Tigers won by scores of 25-20, 25-4, 25-20.
The Tigers then took down MacMurray in four sets. After losing the first game, 25-23, IWC came back with three straight wins: 25-16, 25-20 and 25-19.
Dakota Flesner led the Tigers' attack with 32 kills on the day. She added 25 digs to help the Tigers get back-to-back wins as well.
Logan Chiri had a team-high 29 digs in the games against Blackburn and MacMurray. She also recorded four service aces on the weekend.
Lindsey Johnson had 58 assists to set up the Tigers' offense, which overpowered its conference opponents.
The Tigers move to 3-8 overall. Their 2-1 conference record moves the Tigers to third in the SLIAC standings.
IWC returns to action tonight (Tuesday), as they head to Clarke University. The match is set for 7 p.m. in Dubuque.
The Tigers’ next home game will be Thursday, when they host non-conference opponent Monmouth College at Ruble Arena, starting at 7 p.m.
IWC then plays in another Conference Quad Tournament, this time at Eureka (Ill.) College, over the weekend.
