Tigers blank Van Buren
NEW LONDON — The New London softball team pounded out 10 hits for eight runs while Tiger ace Morgan Christner and the defense held Van Buren scoreless through seven innings in a big Southeast Iowa Super Confernce South Division win on Thursday night in New London.
The Tigers got on the board with a run in the second inning and went on to score another run in the third, fourth and fifth innings, going up 4-0. They then doubled their score with a four-run sixth frame.
Sami Koontz was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Josten Boyer was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Christner gave up four hits but didn’t allow a run. She walked none and struck out eight in the complete-game effort.
Van Buren falls to 2-4 on the year (1-3 in the SEISC South). The Tigers are now 6-3 on the season and upped their record to 2-2 in the SEISC South.
They play again this weekend at the Fairfield Tournament, starting with a game tonight (Friday) against Davis County (Bloomfield), which begins at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers also play two games in Fairfield on Saturday, but the time of those games will be determined by the results of tonight’s game.
