Tigers shoot lights out in their first win of season
CEDAR RAPIDS — The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday at the Mt. Mercy University Classic.
On Friday, the Tigers lost to St. Ambrose University in a close battle, falling by a score of 59-55 to the Bees.
The Tigers bounced back on Saturday, defeating the host Mustangs 75-68, after the losing to the Mustangs, 74-50, just last week.
Jana Meister led the Tigers in the win on Saturday as she led all scorers with 26 points in the game.
Meister was nine-for-18 shooting, including five-for-six from beyond the arc and was perfect from the stripe as she hit all three free throws she attempted.
Ashley Kruse and Danielle Des Jardins each added 14 points against the Mustangs.
Kruse was five-for-five from the field and four-for-seven from the line. Des Jardins shot four-for-nine from the field, including two-for-five from downtown and a perfect four-for-four from the line.
As a team, the Tigers shot an impressive 53.1 percent from the field for the entire game against the Mustangs and an even more impressive 53.8 percent from beyond the arc.
In Friday’s game against St. Ambrose, Kruse led all scorers with 21 points.
Des Jardins and Meister each added 11 points.
Kruse also had a team-high nine rebounds and five blocks.
Meister contributed eight rebounds.
The Tigers are now 1-3 on the season. They return to action this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18, as they head to Monmouth College (Ill.) to participate in the Monmouth Classic.
