Tigers trip fourth-ranked Class 5A Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 1-0, in eight innings
NEW LONDON — New London’s softball team kept rolling over the weekend.
The third-ranked (Class 1A) Tigers upped the season ante to 20-4, collecting a very impressive 1-0 eight-inning victory at Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Saturday. The J-Hawks are ranked fourth in Class 5A, Iowa’s highest classification and carried a 25-4 mark into the contest.
Winning-pitcher Morgan Christner, who has shown the ability to be one of the club’s best clutch hitters, delivered in this one, singling home Sarah Holtkamp with the lone run of the game. Holtkamp had began the eighth with a single before being sacrificed to second.
Meanwhile, Christner limited the hosts to just three hits and struck out eight in going the distance without giving up a free pass.

The Tigers also toppled North Cedar of Stanwood Saturday. Christner hit a two-run homer in this one. She was joined in the hitters’ parade by Emmy Pry and Koontz with two singles each. Noel and Parks bagged the other safeties.
From the rubber, Christner allowed three hits, walked three and fanned 11.
The Tigers silenced Columbus Community, 8-0, Friday night in Southeast Iowa Superconference action. Christner was dominant. The sophomore right-hander tossed a one-hitter recorded 18 of the possible 21 outs via the strikeout. She walked two hitters.
New London broke through with a run in the fourth and then tallied three in the fifth and four more in the sixth to turn a tight game into a rout.
